The Truth about lies ( angles)

This is the most important club specification affecting direction.  Lie angle is referred to as being upright or flat.  It is the angle measured from the back of the hosel to the ground.  The farther the hosel is from the ground the more upright it is.

FACT:  If your lie angle is off my two degrees your ball will be influenced off line by 22 feet.
A four degree error will send the ball 44 feet off line!!!
So, if your lie angle is four degrees too flat this will cause your ball to be 44 feet to the slice side of the target, assuming you make a good swing directly down the target line.( This is the most common error we see by far!)  If your lie angle is two degrees too upright the ball will influenced 22 feet to the hook side.

Like all fitting procedures YOU CANNOT DO THIS INDOORS hitting into a net.  This will be done outdoors hitting the ball off a lie board so that we can see the ball flight.

The reason we want to see ball flight is that a lot of times a player will compensate for an incorrect lie.  For instance, if their lie is too flat that would normally make the ball go to the slice side of the target.  A player will attempt to close the face down to keep the ball from going there.  We need to see that to show the player how an incorrect lie will affect the type of swing they are making.

The more loft in clubs the more important lie angle is---wedges vs. drivers.  Lie angles with a driver is not nearly as important as it would be with a wedge.

Come let us conduct your next fitting when you buy clubs.  We do more of it than anybody in town and we never, never try to get you to buy something you do not need or that doesn't fit you.
