Perfect Practice
Any of you that I have taught have probably heard me talk about all facets of your game need to be addressed if you are going to compete at a high level. One of these areas that is rarely addressed by junior’s is that of physical conditioning and weight lifting. If you ever had doubts about the effectiveness look at the following case study I conducted.
Following are some before and after measurements of club head speed for some of my students. These measurements were taken about two months apart. In addition to weight training we also offer tour level Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) flexibility testing. You can find more info on this on the “Golf Fitness” link. C’mon you can do this!!!
Kelsey Kurtz, age 15 female Nov “02 Jan ’03
Club head speed w/ 6 iron 70 mph 77 mph
Driver 72 mph 84 mph
( This increase in her driver speed resulted in a 30 yard increase in distance!)
Vincent Nadeau, age 14 male Nov ’02 Jan ’03
Club head speed w/ 6 iron 81 mph 85 mph
Driver 97 mph 100 mph
Glenn McCauley Nov ’02 Jan ’03
Club head speed w/6 iron 99 mph 102 mph
Driver 117 mph 117 mph
With the exception of Glenn’s driver speed ( it was high already!!) these are some very significant increases. These workouts consisted of about 45 minutes for three times per week over a two month period. You should think about getting on a program very seriously because IT WORKS. The BEST WAY to do this is go through a TPI evaluation first then get with a good trainer. Not all trainers are equally certified - I have some in the area that I am very comfortable with that I can put you in touch with so you get the best results!
